Thanks to Alameda City Councilmember Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft for this photo and account of the Aug. 1 event celebrating the 2018 Summer Reading Program…
Celebrating Alameda Free Library’s Summer Readers tonight at the “O” Club where some of the 2,400 Alameda kids who participated in the Summer Reading Program were recognized. I told the young readers’ parents that “reading is one of the most valuable skills you can nurture in your child.” Many thanks to Children’s Librarian Eva Volin, the Library Board, and Friends of the Alameda Free Library for supporting this program that included reading books, storytimes, craft activities, and more. Generous sponsors – Tucker’s Ice Cream, Subpar Miniature Golf, the Oakland Athletics, and San Francisco Bay Ferry – made it all possible. So proud to have co-chaired the 2000 campaign to build the new Main Library and renovate our two branch libraries. Libraries are a valuable community resource for everyone!
