President’s Message – May 2020

posted in: News, President's Message

We have been living now with Stay at Home orders for almost two months and it’s clear we will see dramatic shifts in our daily lives for a longer time than we ever imagined. In the midst of this uncertainty the Library remains a source of free information and resources. We hope you are taking advantage of the amazing information at your fingertips without leaving your home. Continually updated resources are listed under the COVID-19 Pandemic Resources button on the library home page, including trials for many streaming services. For homework help there are databases for students and homework help websites. For those without a card the Library is issuing cards electronically. The e-Library is always open!

The FAL Board recognizes that we may not be able to hold regular activities for at least the remainder of the year. We are bringing some of those events – docent talks and author events – to you for you to enjoy from your home. This is a first for us and we are very excited.

Support for the Library is the primary mission of FAL. We have cancelled major fundraising events at least for now and it’s not certain when we can go ahead with the Fall book sale or Live @ the Library. However, we still plan to honor our commitments to support the Library so that it can bring outstanding programs to Alamedans. Finally I want to acknowledge a very generous anonymous gift of $1,000 that will help us keep our pledge.

Your health and safety are of utmost importance. We thank you for your continued understanding and support. Be safe and take care of each other.

Karen Butter, President, FAL
