The FAL 50th anniversary events are underway!

FAL volunteers participated in the library’s Lunar New Year celebration, where families received special favors and indulged in treats and crafts in the specially-decorated Stafford Room and at the Friends Café. Read more about the LNY celebration below.

Another Kanopy app recommendation: the short film ABCs of Book Banning is nominated for an Academy Award. In the film, children and young adults express how much they want and need access to books on LGBTQ identity, race issues, the reality of war and the realities of growing up. (The short film is also streaming on Paramount+.)

On a much more somber note, I am heartbroken about the death of Honora Murphy. She fought for a new Alameda library for more than thirty-five years and was one of the strongest supporters for the new library, working tirelessly on the Measure O campaign, her third library bond campaign. She served on the new library building team and as the first manager of the Library café.

Honora: Alameda extends its grateful thanks.
