I want to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal donors for their contributions. We are grateful that the FAL community shares our love of and vision for public libraries.
We are also grateful that the FAL community shares our enjoyment of the Friends @ Home author and docent talks. We have sponsored outstanding programs and have a terrific upcoming schedule for 2022. If you haven’t been able to join us for these events, please check out our YouTube channel to listen to past speakers.
COVID continues to challenge our re-starting plans. We have tentative dates for the re-opening of Dewey’s Cafe and Books for Friends (BFF), the name for the used book sales room in the Main Library. A revived book sale team has worked to re-envision our operations that include BFF, new one-day Pop-Up Sales, and our used book sales through Amazon. We are so fortunate to have several new volunteers who are doing exceptional work organizing the new and renewed operations. Finally, we are beginning plans for the very popular traditional Fall Used Book Sale at the O’Club, on October 21-23. Mark your calendars!
I will end with quotes from a recent New York Times article about the attraction of physical books and how large quantities “nourish the senses, slay boredom and relieve stress.” It goes on to say “entering our library should feel like easing into a hot tub, strolling into a magic store, entering a chamber of curiosities, the house of a friend.”
