March was a fantastic month for FAL. The March pop-up used book sale, featuring mysteries, sci-fi, and adventure, had lines of buyers ready to shop as the doors opened. Almost everyone seemed to find a good book to buy and a couple of people returned to buy more. The sale was so successful that we have scheduled two more with different selections of books. Please mark the dates on your calendar and come ready to shop: May 7 and June 25 from 12-4pm.
Adding to our joy is the opening of our new Books for Friends (BFF) selling space, located just across from Dewey’s Friends Cafe in the main library. The material is carefully selected and covers many categories. BFF is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12-4pm. Be sure to stop by when you are in the main library.
The Friends @ Home author and docent series have been amazing. We have added closed captioning to make the events available to a wider audience. Author Lisa See’s discussion of her book The Island of Sea Women, an incredible story of an all-woman diving collective in Korea, hit an all-time high on registration. The very popular docent talks have outstanding upcoming programs featuring exhibits from the Legion of Honor and the Oakland Museum of California. Please register to join us.
Board Member Marlene Grcevich resigned from the FAL Board. She has been an important member of our fundraising efforts, writing lovely thank you notes to donors. She also assisted in getting information out to teachers in the school district about our book sales. We will miss her and we hope to see her at future FAL events.
Finally, we are delighted that the Alameda Free Library is bringing children, teens, and adults back to the library with exciting in-person programs. Many thanks to all our supporters. I hope to see you at an event soon.
