Jeptha Tillman Boone died peacefully at home in the presence of his loving wife, Valerie, on Saturday, November 8. He was 85.

Dr. Boone was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy in various parts of the world. When he left the military, he practiced internal medicine with the Alameda Medical Group. His interests were wide ranging, from history and genealogy to music, especially opera.

We at the Friends of the Alameda Free Library remember him as a strong supporter of our library and a former member of the Library Foundation. His vision was to develop a sustainable funding source so that the library could effectively serve the community even during times when funding was not available from the government. He worked tirelessly with a committed Foundation Board to actively support a successful bond measure to build a state-of-the-art main library for the Alameda community. He was a lifelong learner who believed the library is an essential part of our community. We are grateful not only for his dedication to supporting the building of our main library, but also to his vision to ensure the library has funding into the future. He will be missed.
