On Wednesday, July 22 at 7:00 pm the Friends of the Alameda Free Library will continue its Friends @ Home series of online events with a discussion by author Alice Wilson-Fried. Outside Child is the first book in a trilogy of mystery novels set in New Orleans. The second book, One Drop, which takes place during Hurricane Katrina, will be published August 15.

Set in the period before the hurricane, Outside Child reveals more than just the circumstances of a murder and its resolution. It takes the reader into the world of native-born New Orleans Black people, their communities and their procession toward success in their city. The story involves public relations assistant Ladonis Washington and her brother HeartTrouble, who are drawn into solving the murder of a colleague and mentor of Ladonis. The combination of atmosphere, intrigue, and richly drawn characters makes for a meaningful and satisfying page turner.

Alice Wilson-Fried grew up in New Orleans and attended Grambling College and Tulane University. She worked in public relations at the Delta Queen Steamboat Company before moving to California. She lived in Alameda for many years, before recently moving to be closer to her children. In addition to Outside Child and One Drop she is the author of the non-fiction book Menopause, Sisterhood and Tennis.
