We are so thrilled to bring you the next in our series Friends @ Home from the Friends of the Alameda Free Library. We welcome back Avril Angevine, one of our favorite art docents, to this online event.
California photographers have explored, developed, and refined the art of image-making in significant ways. From the early Pictorialists to Oakland’s revolutionary F64 group to the New Topographics work of the 1970s, to contemporary experimenters, photographers in the Golden State have produced a body of work that documents the human and natural environment of a very special place.
Avril Angevine is an independent art lecturer who has spoken at the Alameda Library many times. She is a Humanities and English instructor at local colleges, and a museum guide at both SFMOMA and the Oakland Museum.
