We are excited to welcome Vanessa Hua and Hank Hedland to our Friends @ Home author series for a discussion of Vanessa’s writing.

Vanessa Hua’s column appears weekly in the San Francisco Chronicle’s Datebook section. She is the author of the novel A River of Stars and the short story collection Deceit and Other Possibilities. A National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow, she has also received the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, and a Steinbeck Fellowship in Creative Writing, as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association, among others. She has filed stories from China, Burma, South Korea, Panama, and Ecuador, and her work appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, and The Atlantic. She teaches at the Writers’ Grotto, Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers, and elsewhere.

Hank Hedland is the Manager of Alameda’s independent bookstore, Books Inc.
