Adopt-a-Pet Day a barking success

FAL was delighted to support the Bay Farm Island branch for their Adopt-a-Pet day this past Saturday, April 6, 2024, which they produced in partnership with Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS).

We had lots of giveaways for library patrons: notebooks, stickers, coupons for a free beverage at Friends Cafe, and even stress balls, which may or may not have doubled as dog toys. See photos and watch the video below.

Artist Brian Kolm led a fantastic Cartooning Workshop and said he was pleasantly surprised with how engaged everyone was and how great at drawing cartoon dogs and cats! He’s looking forward to returning for another workshop, possibly cartooning other animals. Let the library know if you’d be interested!

And of course, there was pet adoption success: five kittens were adopted, one puppy has very interested adopters who put in an application, and another puppy likely found a foster family!

If you’d like to be the forever home (or foster) for a dog or cat, please visit the Friends of Alameda Animal Shelter and apply!
